About ASRI
Welcome to ASRI
This page of the ASRI web site attempts to explain what ASRI is, what it seeks to achieve, what the history of the organisation is and how ASRI goes about its business.
What ASRI Is
ASRI is a non-profit research organization run entirely by volunteer members. ASRI has no employees and very limited resources with which to undertake its development programs.
Studying or Working with ASRI
ASRI does not offer courses leading to the grant of qualifications. The International Space University offers courses in a variety of space-related fields. A number of Australian educational institutions that collaborate with ASRI, including the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Queensland University of Technology, University of Queensland, and the University of Technology in Sydney, also offer space-related courses.
As a volunteer organisation with no paid employees, ASRI is not able to offer work experience to students or industry professionals.
Corporate Structures
The Australian Space Research Institute (ASRI) is registered under Australian Corporations law as a Company Limited by Guarantee. Consequently, ASRI's operations are principally governed by a Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association.
ASRI is governed by a Board of Directors with day-to-day operations managed by an Executive.
The Past and the Future
ASRI came about in the early 1990s as the result of a merger between the AUSROC Launch Vehicle Development Group at Monash University in Melbourne and the Australian Space Engineering Research Association (ASERA). See the ASRI Chronology and the ASRINews articles in the ASRI Library for more information about ASRI's history.
ASRI is currently developing a vision for the future of Australia's space community, including industry.
