ASRI policy 5 Membership

Basis of Membership Policy

This policy is intended to provide a clear understanding of how information is used internally in the course of recording information required to satisfy legislation and Board requirements pertaining to all types of members of ASRI.

This policy expands on the membership provisions of the ASRI Articles of Association and ASRI Memorandum of Association. Should there be a conflict between this policy and either the Articles or Memorandum, then the latter shall prevail.

The ASRI privacy policy is an integral component of this membership policy.

Membership of ASRI

1. Membership Types and Fees

There are three (3) types of ASRI membership available as determined by the Board:

  • Full - $50.00 per annum
  • Student / Concession - $30.00 per annum
  • Corporate - $100.00 per annum

These memberships are for the period of 1 calendar year (or other period of time as determined by the members at an AGM of the Institute).

Membership fees are in Australian Dollars and do not attract GST.

Membership Fees are decided by the members from time to time at a general meeting and are payable when, and in the way, the Board of Directors decides.

2. Application to Become a Member

In line with current legislation, applicants are required to complete an ASRI membership form.

Prospective members are required to adhere to the policies and constitution of the Institute, and as such, this is a condition of membership.

An application must be in writing and signed by the applicant on a form determined by the Executive of the Institute. Membership commences upon the determination of the Executive and then for a period of 1 (one) year.

3. Rejection and/or Termination of Members

The management committee may reject a member's membership if the member:

  • Is convicted of an indictable offence; or
  • Does not comply with any of the provisions of the constitution or policies; or
  • Has membership fees in arrears for at least 2 months; or
  • conducts himself or herself in a way considered to be injurious or prejudicial to the character or interests of the Institute.

Note that rejection or termination of membership is rare and is done only after extensive consultation with the member in question.

4. Appeal of Termination and/or Rejection of Membership

A person whose application for membership has been rejected, or whose membership has been terminated, may give the Secretary written notice of the person's intention to appeal against the decision.

A notice of intention to appeal must be given to the secretary within 1 (one) month after the person receives written notice of the decision. If the secretary receives a notice of intention to appeal, the secretary must, within 3 months after the day of receipt, call a general meeting to decide the appeal. An appeal must be decided by a vote of the members present at the meeting.

Policy Implementation

ASRI's membership policy is implemented through the membership administration process.

Policy Review and Approval

This ASRI policy was formally approved by the ASRI Board of Directors on [NOT YET APPROVED]. Amendment will be in response to applicable changes in the ASRI Articles of Association and as considered necessary by ASRI.
